House Rules

These are the rules you agree to when confirming a reservation to stay at Nuthatch Retreat

X NO PARTIES
X NO DOGS OR OTHER PETS - we aim to be an allergen-free space
X NO SMOKING OR VAPING INSIDE
X NO BURNING OF CANDLES/NAKED FLAMES INSIDE
We ask that you smoke/vape outside, away from the building, and
do not dispose of any cigarettes, naked flames or vapes in the garden.

SUPERVISION OF YOUNG CHILDREN IS REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES IN THE GARDEN AND WHEN USING THE OUTDOOR BATH.
The garden has many steps and levels and the bath is deep so please do not leave children unattended. The bath is used at your own risk.

And finally, this is a peaceful location for relaxing and chilling out - it is not a party house. Please be mindful of our lovely neighbours and we respectfully ask that no loud or amplified music is played, inside or out, after 11pm.

Your Space

Guests have use of a single-storey, step-free property including an open-plan living, kitchen and dining space, a large wet room and a generous master bedroom plus a peaceful, private terraced garden across three levels.

For an additional supplement, there is a second twin bedroom / playroom opposite the master bedroom. This room is only bookable for (younger and adult) family members. It cannot be booked for larger groups of adults.

We have worked with AccessAble so you can find out about our facilities before you visit:

“We had a movie night with the projector. It was amazing. The beds were really comfy too”

“I liced The octupus Teddy [sic]”

- From two of our younger guests

Arrive to a generous hamper of local delights - Netherend butter, Chase farm milk, eggs, Kontext Coffee, rustic sourdough, and something nice to drink (with substitutes based on your dietary requirements).

A first lot of firewood is provided for the outdoor fire-pit. More wood can be sourced at the village shop in Blakeney and locally produced lump-wood charcoal is available from The Dean Heritage Centre shop 5mins away.

Outside, you have access to a terraced garden with large patio, steps lead down to two lower levels of landscaped garden with a deep soak tub for two, and wild fire pit area. The terracing means the property isn't ideal for young children and any younger guests will need supervising outside at all times - please contact us to discuss if need be.

*Please note that we cannot accommodate dogs as we’re offering an allergen-free environment for guests who need this. We can recommend lovely places that align with our values down the road.

THE ENVIRONMENT

Cosy in the winter and cool in the summer, Nuthatch Retreat is triple-glazed, highly insulated with hot water and underfloor heating fed from our air-source heat pump. Plus our electricity is provided from 100% green (wind, solar, hydro) sources.

Efficient appliances, a stylish Simpson & Partners EV charger, designed and manufactured in the Cotswolds; sustainable bedding and ethically-produced Neal’s Yard Remedies toiletries reflect further efforts to minimise the impact of the space. Other considerations include:

  • Environmentally-friendly products for cleaning and guests use, refilled to minimise single-use plastic.

  • We use sustainable Who Gives a Crap bamboo toilet paper. 50% of their profits are donated to clean water and sanitation non-profits.

  • We aim to line dry our towels and bed linen whenever possible to minimise power usage and give them as long a life as possible.

  • We only use Peat-free compost.

  • The frozen meat available to buy is sourced from Plump Hill Farm - ethically reared and rare-bread, based in Longhope.

  • Items in our food hampers are locally sourced from within 15 miles.

  • There is a bat-box installed on site to encourage our nocturnal neighbours to roost.

  • Beyond rubbish bags, no single-use plastic is used at Nuthatch Retreat.

The garden is designed to attract a wider biodiversity to an area already rich with the sights and sounds of nature. The lower part of the garden is left to grow a bit wild, with spring and summer wildflower beds and grasses left to grow tall. The bird feeders attract greater spotted woodpeckers, goldfinches, all the tits, squirrels and of course, the occasional nuthatch! Whilst relaxing here you can encounter a myriad of butterflies, bees and bugs, lizards, bats, owls and birds of prey. Just over the boundary into Forestry England land herds of of deer can often been seen grazing amongst the bracken under the old Ash tree and at night you may even hear the sound of snuffling wild boar making their way through the undergrowth.
